If it’s been a while since you saw a dentist, it’s normal to arrive a little nervous. Knowing what will happen helps. Here’s what we do at a first visit.
We talk first
Before looking at anything, we ask: what brings you in, whether something hurts or bothers you, whether you’re pregnant, what medication you take and whether you have any health conditions. All of that changes how we plan your care.
The check-up
The examination is calm and doesn’t hurt. We check:
- Every tooth, looking for decay or failing restorations.
- The gums, for inflammation or bleeding.
- Your bite and jaw joint.
- The soft tissues of the mouth (tongue, cheeks, palate).
If needed, we take X-rays to see what isn’t visible to the eye, especially between the teeth and under old restorations.
The plan and the quote
Afterwards we explain what we found, how urgently each thing should be treated and how much it costs. We give you the quote before starting any treatment, with no surprises.
How long it takes
Between 30 and 45 minutes. If you only need a simple cleaning, it can sometimes be done at the same visit; if there’s anything more, we schedule the next one.
